History & Achievements

Cohesive Communities Development Initiative(COCODEV) (COCODEV) is a registered non-governmental organization, which was officially registered in 2019, after existing for over 6 years working as a grassroots charity and community-based organization in Eket senatorial district where the project implementation is proposed. The mission, vision, and strategic objectives of the organization is targeted at marginalized and excluded populations of the society, with a bias for widows, girls and children dobbed witches. Our intersectionality approach makes us go deeper in understanding, prevention, responding and making referrals on GBV/SGBV incidences involving our target population. COCODEV is child centred and has been registered with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare of Akwa Ibom State. Our child safeguarding and PSHEA policies, underscore our proactive stands on protecting all children irrespective of tribe, race, creed or religion, thereby keeping them safe from all forms of harm, abuse, exploitation and neglect.

We combine an empowerment-based approach with a programme development approach which makes us utilize every single action within any community to push for social inclusion. This has been showcased in our village savings and loans association initiative, which also doubles as safe spaces for women and girls within very poor communities. The safe spaces are avenues for cascading trainings on life skills for these groups, which facilitates engagement with local systems and structures that perpetrate harm against them.

COCODEV has a total staff strength of 5 paid staff who are all female and 85 community volunteers, of which 80% are female. The Executive Directors being an experienced female leads the program delivery side of the organization, while accountable to the Board of Trustees.
